482 – Skills in Demand (SID) visa

Who it’s for

Skilled workers sponsored by an approved employer to fill roles where Australian workers are not available. Streams include Core Skills and Specialist Skills (with higher income thresholds). Family (spouse/partner and dependent children) can usually be included.

What’s new (2024–2025)
SID replaces TSS
  • From 7 December 2024, the Skills in Demand (SID) subclass 482 replaced the TSS 482 for new applications. Previously‑lodged TSS files continue under the old rules.
Income thresholds indexed
  • From 1 July 2025, the Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) and the Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT) increased (see your employment contract and nomination to confirm compliance).
More mobility after job loss
  • From 1 July 2024, 482/494/457 holders who cease employment generally have up to 180 days at a time (up to 365 days total) across the visa grant to find a new sponsor, apply for another visa or depart. During this period, limited work for other employers can be permitted—get specific advice on your conditions.
ANZSCO 2022 for 482/186
  • Occupation mapping uses the updated ANZSCO 2022 for these programs.
Aged Care Industry Labour Agreement
  • Pathways available for key care occupations via SID (482) or ENS (186) under approved agreements.
How we help employers

Common pitfalls we prevent
  • Incorrect ANZSCO mapping or duties that don’t match the nominated occupation.
  • Salary below market/thresholds; unpaid allowances excluded from guaranteed earnings.
  • Incomplete or inconsistent references; expired health/police checks.
  • Missed notifications after a change in situation (duty changes, reduction of hours, or cessation).
If your sponsor can’t continue / you lost your job
  • We assess time on your visa, remaining grace periods, and bridging options.
  • We coordinate transfer to a new sponsor or pivot to a new pathway (Partner, ENS Direct Entry, Skilled, Student/Graduate where suitable).
  • We advise on what work you can do while you secure the new nomination, so you remain compliant.
